In 1973 the Forestry Commission had rabbits present on 253 of its 255 forests and 184 forests had suffered some damage to trees. Woodlands in private ownership were also damaged by rabbits. The damage was mainly browsing and bark stripping on young conifer and broadleaved trees. There is a legal obligation upon the occupier to control rabbits wherever present, as well as a necessity when the animals are inflicting damage of economic importance to woodlands and farm crops. This Leaflet describes the methods in use to control rabbit numbers.
