In this role you will lead a number of major soil related projects, working closely with others in the Soil Sustainability Research Team and the wider organisation. Projects will involve researching the role of soil carbon, nutrient sustainability and soil biodiversity in ecosystem functioning and soil health, including relationships with soil properties and the impacts of land use change and management practices.

In this role you will act as the main point of contact for the Forest Genetics group’s research infrastructure which comprises ~300 experimental sites, gene banks, databases and equipment. You will also be responsible for day-to-day delivery of forest genetics research projects, which typically involve a strong field component.

As Chair, you will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the development of forest science in the UK,  at a time of unprecedented interest in the benefits which forestry can provide to society, a rapidly evolving delivery landscape across the devolved administrations, and new opportunities in forest science.

As a committee member, you will be expected to contribute to the work of the committee in reviewing and providing feedback and guidance on applied research, particularly in relation to forest science, forest genetics, silviculture, tree-breeding, forest management and related topics.
