About Daniel Smith
Daniel joined Forest Research in 2024 as a scientist in the Climate Change Research Group after completing his MSc in Geographic Information Systems and BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Portsmouth. His dissertation research focused on the impacts of climate change on the natural environment, including the development of retrogressive thaw slumps in Alaska and changes in wildfire severity in California.
What Daniel does
Daniel supports climate change adaptation research and the refresh of the Alice Holt Climate Change Adaptation Trail, helping to showcase practical adaptation measures and share knowledge and best practice with forestry practitioners. In addition, he supports the Silviculture Group by developing and managing a mobile GIS mapping system that assists with the management of arboreta across England.
