Charlie is Senior Carbon Scientist researching the carbon balance of forest systems, with a focus on forestry projections and improving the forestry component of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory.
Charlie Joined Forest Research in 2023 to work on forest carbon balance modelling and assist delivering the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero – Forest Research Memorandum of Understanding (DESNZ-FR MOU) regarding climate mitigation research and activities to support accurate reporting of UK GHG emissions. Before joining Forest Research, Charlie was based at the Ministry for the Environment in New Zealand, where he led the research program for the land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) sector for the New Zealand GHG Inventory. During this time, he focused on identifying research priorities for the sector and identifying and implementing improvements to the forestry and land use models. Prior to this he worked on forestry and ecosystem accounting at the system of environmental economic accounting (SEEA) at Statistics New Zealand.
