Time and Duration of visit
A National Forest Inventory (NFI) surveyor will visit your wood for about a day sometime during the next year. The amount of time the surveyor needs to spend on site will depend upon the complexity of the woodland. The actual date of the visit will depend upon the surveyor’s progress through previous sites and, of course, the weather. We will also re-visit about 5 per cent of the sample squares within two months of the first visit for quality assurance purposes, and this may include your site. Please specify if there are times unsuitable for you (specify any restrictions in the comment box below).
Site Markers
We intend to leave some small marker pegs, rods and 2” metal discs in the ground at the sample site. The pegs are unobtrusive and similar to ordinary tent pegs, and we only need to place an average of five at each site. They will allow us to relocate the site in future if required, thereby helping to ensure the accuracy of future surveys. Please specify if you are happy with our surveyors leaving approximately ~5 pegs (you can specify any objections in the comment box below).
Access
If your woodland is some distance from a public highway, it could take our surveyor a long time to walk to the wood, which will incur extra costs to the taxpayer. In these instances, our surveyors will be in touch to discuss access arrangements with you prior to their visit. Please specify if you are happy with possible vehicle access (you can specify any objections in the comment box below).
Please can you make a note of any site hazards if present; any access comments (e.g.: padlocked gate, gate code, etc.); any comments on site markers and time/duration of our visit (e.g.: there are certain times of year we cannot visit); or any other comments.
Could you draw your property boundary lines on the large-scale map that should be provided in the letter and attach the file here? Either as a PDF scan or photo, this will help us in updating our records and let our surveyors know the areas that are under your ownership.
Max. file size: 15 MB.
