Varsha holds a B.Tech in Biotechnology from Sathyabama University, where her undergraduate research focused on investigating antibacterial compounds from seaweed-associated endophytic microorganisms. She later completed an MSc in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Sheffield, where her projects involved gene editing in Saccharomyces cerevisiae using CRISPR/Cas9 and molecular cloning approaches to study plastic-degrading enzymes.
Varsha joined Alice Holt in 2024 as a Curator Scientist on the Culture Curation project, contributing to the development of a centralised microbial culture collection facility. She currently works as a Pathology Scientist, conducting field and laboratory research on tree pathogens, particularly fungal and Phytophthora species, using molecular and diagnostic approaches to support tree health research.
