About Ruth Carter
Ruth has previously worked on a project at Forest Research developing an integrated surveillance systems for invasive bark beetles including the use of Machine Learning and internet-of-things connected traps. Ruth obtained her PhD from Lancaster University with Rothamsted Research. Ruth’s PhD focused on interactions between native African armyworm (Spodoptera exempta) and invasive moths fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) and the implications for pest management. Prior to this she worked in the arthropod genetic group at the Pirbright Institute researching killer-rescue systems of Aedes aegypti and Plutella xylostella. Ruth completed a BSc in Biology at Royal Holloway University, before undertaking an MSc in Entomology at Harper Adams University.
What Ruth does
Ruth is an Entomologist who joined FR in September 2024 as part of the Ips typographus management team, which advises on Ips management to the Forestry Commission England and to the Defra-led Ips typographus Incident Management Team.
