Job Description

Giulio is a Research Scientist of the Climate Change Science Group at Forest Research. His broad role is to help understand the impact of climate and other environmental changes on forests, and how trees and forests can improve our environment and provide ecological, environmental and societal benefits. He specialises in field monitoring of trees, environmental parameters and greenhouse gas fluxes.

Biography

Giulio Curioni obtained a BSc and MSc degree at the University of Milano-Bicocca (IT) in Environmental Sciences and Technology with specialisation in soil science, and a PhD at the University of Birmingham (UK) in Engineering on shallow geophysics. He was involved in engineering and environmental projects using new methods and technologies for measuring soil physical properties (e.g. soil moisture) and later managed environmental research data from a world-leading large-scale FACE (Free Air Carbon dioxide Enrichment) forest experiment at the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR).

Giulio joined Forest Research in 2023 working on a project investigating the resilience of native UK tree broadleaved species to historical drought events using dendrochronology.
