Romain is an assistant economist specialising in the economics of sustainable forestry. His research focuses on the financial dimensions of woodland creation and management, including costs related to site preparation, planting, fencing, long-term upkeep, and the economic impacts of wildlife. He also examines how these costs influence broader land-use decisions and environmental policy. Currently, Romain is involved in developing a UK Forest Sector Model, a project designed to capture the dynamic interplay between forestry policy, land use, and market forces.

The Economics of Woodland Creation project aims to build England’s forest economic evidence base to help land managers and businesses make informed decisions on land use change and woodland management. This will be achieved through the collection and economic analysis of information on the financial implications of woodland creation options.
