Head of Centre, Sustainable Forestry and Climate Change
Richard provides management and strategic leadership to the Centre for Sustainable Forestry and Climate Change which comprises of 50 staff and 5 Science Groups.
Richard's role is to ensure that the Centre aligns to the strategic direction of Forest Research, delivering excellent science and providing data and input to Government for inclusion in policy decisions, in addition to responding to potential threats and risks.
Delivering excellent applied research, on time and to budget enables our funders and customers to utilise data, models and statistical packages to their benefit and for the benefit of the UK's woodlands and forests.
Richard has a background in Earth Observation and Remote Sensing, working as a research scientist on plant health in the Sahel and on the EOSDIS system for NASA, before joining a Danish Space and Defence organisation and managing the operations in Italy.
