from Scottish Forestry
Forestry has far-reaching impacts across the economy. Economists have devoted much work in the past 20 years or more to estimating the value of the goods and services provided by forests. The concept of natural capital offers an important way to understand these impacts and to demonstrate their value to the economy. There is also now a pressing need to devise mechanisms to deliver these values in the marketplace, generating revenue streams for forest owners and ensuring that the true value of woodlands is built into the economy. This session will review the latest work on building evidence on the economic values of forestry and on developing new mechanisms to deliver these values in practice.
