Friday 14 April 2023 1400-1500

Presented by Ben Ditchburn and hosted by Nicol Sinclair

What is this seminar about?

The Trees Outside Woodland (TOW) project is ongoing project part of the Defra funded Natural Capital Ecosystem Assessment programme (NCEA) designed to provide accurate information about the size, distribution, composition and condition of Trees Outside Woodland.

Many trees do not grow in woodland, but are found singly, in hedgerows and in parks and gardens, or as small wood as features in an agricultural landscape.  TOWs tend to be located in three main areas of the landscape: Trees in the agricultural landscape, Trees in urban areas and trees alongside transport corridors.

Trees outside woodlands are important natural resources and make important contributions to national biomass, carbon stocks, biodiversity and natural capital. Therefore it is important that they are monitored, so they can be better managed and protected.

This talk will look at what research has been carried out so far and how the research will be used in  future modelling.

Who is the seminar for?

This seminar is for practitioners and decision-makers with an interest in Trees Outside Woodland.
