A Scientist – Entomology role, based in Alice Holt to lead the entomological contribution to Tree Health Diagnostic and Advisory Service (THDAS) at Forest Research (FR).

The Tree Health research group’s role is to sustain the forestry and tree sector in Britain through three main activities. Firstly, provision of rapid diagnosis of tree health problems and advice via FR’s Tree Health Diagnostic and Advisory Service (THDAS); secondly, undertaking relevant and topical research on the pest and pathogen threats that affect British trees to inform appropriate management and future proofing;
and thirdly, conducting analyses and evaluations of specific tree health issues to underpin government policy.

Members of the entomology team typically undertake field and laboratory based investigations and research into a range of invertebrate pests, most notably bark and longhorn beetles, defoliating moths, jewel beetles, and pine weevils.

We are seeking to appoint a permanent Scientist – Entomology, based in Alice Holt to lead the entomological contribution to THDAS. THDAS undertakes field and laboratory based research into a range of tree pests and diseases as well as advising sector, policy and public stakeholders on pest management and monitoring.
