A GIS Specialist – Technical role, within Forest Research (FR). To support an increasing customer base within the Forestry Commission (FC) and our external forestry customers.
The GIS and Data Services team sit within the Centre for Inventory Forecasting & Operational Support (IFOS) an expert, customer focused provider of forestry information, software and services. The team manage and deliver an integrated spatial platform for forest and land management; comprising ‘Forester’ web-based applications and ‘Geostore’ a GB-wide spatial data and metadata catalogue. Esri Enterprise, ArcGIS Online and open-source technology are used to deliver services from the platform to 1600 users within the forestry and land management sector. Increasingly, mobile and remote sensing technologies, coupled with data science, are being used to produce derived data and information products for our customers. We also support a growing demand from our internal and external customers for focussed GIS solutions to meet specific needs.
The GIS and Data Services team are recruiting a GIS specialist to support an increasing customer base within the FC and our external forestry customers. You will be working with the latest GIS technologies and data, presenting an excellent opportunity to utilise existing as well as develop new skills. You will be supported in your individual development needs, goals and career aspirations. The role will be based with our GIS Development function, working directly to the GIS Technical Lead, with opportunities to work across the entire team.
The role will be varied, dealing with technology and data, with customers and supporting development of new products and services.
This GIS Specialist – Technical role can be based in Alice Holt Research Station, Farnham, Surrey GU10 4LH; or in Northern Research Station, Roslin, Midlothian EH25 9SY. Blended working gives you the option to work some of the week from home, and some from the workplace. You will be asked to express a location preference during the application process.
