Wildlife at Ropsley Rise Picnic Area

Ropsley Village and Near Grantham are the nearest towns or villages.

Ropsley Rise picnic area is a wide open grassy place. The picnic area is an excellent place for children to kick a ball about, or have an evening barbecue. The adjacent woodland is not open to the public.

Mammals: Fox, rabbit, grey squirrel and brown hare are all possible mammals you may see whilst picnicing.

Birds: Robin, blackbird, song thrush, dunnock and wren can be seen and heard around the site.

Insects and reptiles: Common butterflies such as brimstone, green-veined white, small tortoiseshell and peacock will come to feed from the verge flowers here.

Habitats: There is remnant ancient woodland on the edges of the conifer plantation here, with its associated plants, for example, dogs' mercury, bluebell, spindle and blackthorn. There are also common spotted orchids in the grassland.

How to get there:
The car park and picnic area is located on the minor road between Old Somerby and Ropsley.
