INFORMATION PANEL & GRIZEDALE PIKE FROM HORSEBOX CROSSROADSHigh on Whinlatter Pass the Visitor Centre staff will be pleased to help you discover the delights of England's only "mountain forest".
Choose from an extensive network of waymarked trails for walkers and cyclists or experience the challenge of orienteering.
Children will want to come back time and again after they have enjoyed the Rabbit Run and Fox Trot trails. In addition an outdoor adventure play area will keep children happy for hours.
Finally complete the day with a visit to the Mountain Forest Tearoom to enjoy a meal and savour the panormic views.
Open daily, 10am to 5pm (11am to 4pm winter)January to December. Pay and Display car park. Small charge for Rabbit Run, Fox Trot and orienteering trails. Waymarked trails and play area free.
Due to redevelopment work the Visitor Centre will be closed until mid May 2003. The shop is temporarily located on the bottom car park where Christmas trees are being sold from.

Mammals: During Autumn and Winter our Red Squirrel live video camera will bring live images from a Red Squirrel feeding station located at a secret place within the forest. See if you can catch a glimpse of these amazing creatures. (Whilst the feeding station is visited regularly by squirrels we cannot guarentee that you will see one). Birds: Watch the amazing Ospreys on a live video nest camera from April to Late August annually, 7 days a week from 10am until 5pm daily. During this period Osprey project staff will be on hand to help visitors enjoy these fascinating birds of prey as they raise their young overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake. Road:-
From Keswick: Take the A66 west towards Cockermouth. At Braithwaite turn west onto the B5292 for Lorton. Follow Visitor Centre Sign Posts.

Bus from Keswick.
Train:-
Nearest station is Penrith (25 miles east) on the west coast mainline.
