Helping you manage local and regional heritage projects involving woodland

Veteran treeWe can provide you with specialist advice to enable you to meet the standards required for accreditation and sustainable forestry. We cover all aspects of the historic environment including:

  • Individual veteran trees and archaeological features
  • Management practices for historic landscapes
  • Heritage protection during specific forest operations
  • Development of long-term management plans and monitoring systems

Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) services to map the ground surface

  • Specification advice/design and collection of new LiDAR data
  • Advice on site suitability, including desk based and rapid field based
  • Archaeological and ecological assessments
  • Feature interpretation through analysis of new and existing LiDAR data
  • Provision of processed maps and GIS-ready data
  • Presentation of key findings though a variety of methods including stakeholder meetings
  • A complete project management service if required.

Our expertise and background

These services are provided by our Woodland Heritage Services Group whose unique combination of expertise has been gained over decades of experience, advising on heritage conservation and restoration projects.

The Group has a background of archaeological and ecological knowledge combined with an understanding of woodland management and technical expertise in modern remote sensing surveys and mapping. It collaborates closely with Cambridge University's Unit for Landscape Modelling, which is a world leader in LiDAR technology and surveys, to undertake heritage surveys of woodland.

The Group work across Great Britain and Northern Ireland for clients in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Clients have included:

  • Forestry Commission
  • English Heritage
  • Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • County Councils
  • Other land managers.
