Quinquennial Review stages

The Forest Research Quinquennial Review looked forward 5 years from April 2002 and was conducted in two stages:

Stage 1

This looked at the best organisational status for the next 5 years and reported in January 2002. The Review started in August 2001 with a consultation inviting the opinions of customers, partners and interested parties of all kinds (the ‘stakeholders’).

Ministers accepted the recommendations in August 2002.

Stage 2

This looked at ways in which the performance of Forest Research might be improved; whether:

  • Performance targets were right
  • It could be more responsive to people who use its services
  • It could make better use of new technology
  • It needed to be given more freedom and flexibility.

This stage reported in October 2002. The recommendations were approved by Ministers and are now being implemented.
