Woods In and Around Towns Initiative (WIAT)
 

Family walking in urban woodland near Drumchapel, Glasgow. Central Scotland ConservancyThis Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) initiative aims to increase the contribution of woodland to the quality of life in Scotland’s urban and post-industrial areas.  This includes areas in and around:

  • Aberdeen
  • Dundee
  • Edinburgh and Lothians
  • Forth
  • Glasgow
  • Clyde Valley
  • Ayrshire
  • Rural towns.

The objectives include bringing 3000 ha of urban woodlands into active management and creating 100 ha of accessible urban woodland through FCS acquisition and management by 2008.
