Using information supplied by Technical Services Unit (TSU) from studies at Dornoch and Kielder Forest Districts, Roger has built predictive models that forecast population trajectories and transplant damage on a site-specific basis. These models will shortly be delivered as a software package called the Hylobius Management Support System (MSS) that will be available by subscription. The Hylobius MSS is based upon an evaluation of site characteristics together with local Hylobius population monitoring which can be offered as a contract service by TSU. The information collected can then be used by the forester to determine the best management options for reductions in transplant damage caused by Hylobius. The Hylobius MSS will also look at options to reduce Hylobius populations where this is practical.
