Matthew Jollands joined Forest Research as a social researcher in January 2009. Before this he studied at the University of Sheffield, first for a BA in Social and Political Studies, graduating in 2007, followed by and MA in Sociological Research.

Matthew is responsible for the social research project ‘Wildfires in Wales: Social drivers and mitigation measures’.

Wildfires in Wales: social drivers and mitigation measures
This is a two-year project analysing the social drivers behind deliberately set fires in the South Wales forest district, focusing on community and institutional responses. There is an aim to work toward policies that will decrease the incidences of deliberately lit wildfires in the area.
