Anja graduated with a degree in Environmental Sciences with Environmental Policy from Oxford Brookes University. After graduation she continued her studies and completed her research degree in the field of Environmental Planning. During this time, she was also a member of the Impact Assessment Unit, a designated EC Europa Centre of Excellence in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) at Oxford Brookes University, where she was involved in a number of European Commission funded research projects. She then worked as a researcher on the ASCCUE (Adaptation Strategies for Climate Change in the Urban Environment) project, which formed part of the ‘Building Knowledge for a Changing Climate’ initiative, led by EPSRC and the UK Climate Impacts Programme. Subsequently, Anja moved her career into the Environmental Consultancy field and worked as an Environmental Coordinator in the Environmental Business Unit at Jacobs UK Ltd. In addition, she is currently an Associated Lecturer for the Open University.

Anja joined Forest Research in April 2008, as Partnership Co-ordinator of the recently formed Rural Research and Strategy Partnership (RRSP), which is a collaboration between FR and the Universities of Reading, Surrey, Sussex and the University for the Creative Arts (UCCA).

Current role

Partnership Co-ordinator for Rural Research and Strategy Partnership (RRSP), Chief Executive’s Office.

The new Partnership aims to create an inter-disciplinary research community focused on rural sustainability issues, to develop innovative, pragmatic solutions and strategies for dealing with them. Funded initially by the South East England Regional Development Agency (SEEDA), RRSP was launched formally in April. It aims to improve the way in which research consortia working on rural issues are formed and to help researchers generate new, collaborative research bids. It also aims to broaden and deepen the engagement between rural stakeholders and the research base.

As Partnership Co-ordinator, Anja is responsible for building a vibrant Partnership, acting as a catalyst to stimulate new collaboration amongst researchers. Over time, the aim is to build a vibrant project portfolio, running research workshops on topics of importance for rural sustainability. The Co-ordinator will also organise stakeholder meetings, to build strong links with a wide range of stakeholders.
