Carbon Lean UK - A role for our trees, woods and forests?

What was the conference?

Climate change is today’s major environmental issue and forestry has a lead to take in adaptation and mitigation, particularly in forest carbon management.

Carbon Lean UK explored new opportunities and challenges, exchanged the latest thinking and gathered information in a series of conference sessions led by experts from the UK and abroad. It looked at three key themes across the two days:

• Energy and carbon accounting
• Carbon trading
• The forestry sector’s contribution to a carbon-lean society.

Speakers covered a range of topics to challenge traditional assumptions and build a better understanding of the renewed importance of our industry. These included Robert Matthews of Forest Research who presented "Forestry and Renewable Energy".

The conference concluded with a delegate-engaging open debate on whether woodlands contribute to a carbon lean society.
