Assessing timber for the wood processing industry
Workshop on timber assessment methods 11th October 2007 What was the event? There is a continuing need for the Scottish wood processing industries to stay competitive against imported timber. Competitiveness can be aided by optimizing the flow of timber to ensure as far as is possible that the right material is allocated to a specific processing facility. To do this requires detailed knowledge of the raw material and methods for determining the wood properties of interest in the forest, at the roadside and in the log yard prior to processing, so that decisions on allocation can be made as early in the woodchain as possible.
