Bill Rayner
Forester / Site surveyor, Technical Services UnitBill Rayner left Newton Rigg with a Forestry O.N.D. in 1978. He then spent a period working as a private forestry contractor and Estate Foreman Forester before joining the Forestry Commission in 1981 as a beat Forester in Strathconon. Transferring in 1985 to Forest Research as a Research Forester based in Perth. In 1990 he took up his current post as a Forester / Site surveyor. Current roleSoils advisor and site surveyor, Technical Services Unit Responsible for site surveys, soil advice and fertiliser prescriptions. - Global Information System (GIS) data interpretation
- Remedial fertiliser prescriptions for tree establishment
- oil / site recognition coaching.
Project and other work includes: - Development of practical courses to coach clients in site potential assessment
- Joint programme development and implementation to digitise the Forestry Commission soil data
- Assisting Forest Research Project Leaders in the practical application of soils data to modelling scenarios and their subsequent woodland application.
