Bracken control trials to encourage tree regeneration

Methods for controling of brackenForest Research have established a new trial aimed at determining the optimum method for bracken control to encourage tree regeneration in native woodland areas. The study demonstrates several different treatments of herbicide and ground disturbance.

The Technical Services Unit (TSU) staff at our Newton field station have been involved in the design, site selection, layout and ground preparation of the trial, which will run for 3 years. A detailed annual assessment of vegetation colonistation and tree regeneration will be carried out by some of our botanical specialists.
