Direct sowing trials
 

PINUS SYLVESTRIS . Scots pine cones and seed . Location: Northern Research Station , Midlothian , Scotland .Dornoch Forest District contracted Technical Services Unit (TSU) to carry out an experiment into the use of direct sowing as an alternative method of establishing native tree species.

The experiment will evaluate the sowing density and method required to establish Scots pine and birch on a range of site types in the north.

The team at our Lairg field station have organised the ground preparation, layout and sowing, and will assess results over the next 2 years.
