Using wild boar to encourage tree regeneration

Wild boar in forestMoray Forest District have been using wild boar to scarify circular coupes of approximately 0.1 ha in an attempt to promote Scots Pine regeneration. The sites are dominated by heather and a thick moss layer.

On behalf of the Forest District, Staff from the Technical Services Unit (TSU) field station at Newton have been monitoring the survival and growth of seedlings, browsing damage and vegetative colonisation.
