Best practice in land regeneration

The Forestry Commission and English Partnerships have begun to address the need to provide a consistent approach to site restoration protocols for soft-end land-uses through decision support computer software and best practice guidelines.

This decision support system will generate specifications for:

  • Soil amelioration
  • Cultivation
  • Tree and ground vegetation establishment
  • After-care management.

This will use current best practice principles for a range of brownfield substrates, especially opencast and deep mined colliery sites and engineered containment landfills. This tool will be expanded in the future to include developed best practice based on proven technologies through research and demonstration. We therefore envisage future versions to deal with a broader range of site types.

For further information on the software, see the roots™ website or contact sales@muddyboots.com

Best practice guidelines

Forest Research have produced these to address a range of reclamation issues and are free to download. See the Land regeneration and urban greening website.
