Quarter girth
A traditional method of measuring girth to calculate hoppus volume content based on the inch quarter girth which was four true inches. Like the hoppus system, it has largely been replaced by metric measure.
Quarter sawn
A method of sawing a log radially in order to show attractive markings (silver grain in oak) and reduce grain shrinkage of the boards and planks.
