About Us
The work of the Forestry Commission in North West England is the responsibility of around 100 people, working from a number of offices across the region. People are the organisation's greatest asset. Woodland officers, forest craftsmen, engineers, admin staff, land agents, wildlife rangers, foresters, liaison officers, recreation rangers, visitor centre assistants, office managers, recreation managers and project officers all work together to deliver the organisation's aims and objectives.

The Forestry Commission's management of its own land is guided by a Strategic Plan which takes the themes from the England Forestry Strategy and brings them down to a regional level. The Forestry Commission in North West England operates two main offices. The first is based at Peil Wyke, overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake, Cockermouth, North Cumbria with the second at Grizedale near Hawkshead, Ambleside in South Cumbria. The roles and responsibilities of these offices are detailed below:- Peil Wyke near Cockermouth in North Cumbria:- The team based at Peil Wyke are responsible for promoting and encouraging woodland planting and management across North West England. The team is responsible for operating the Woodland Grant Scheme, issuing Felling Licences and working with the many private landowners in the North West of England who own and manage woodlands and forests. The team also supports an outstationed office at Delamere which covers the southern half of the region. The team includes: - Keith Jones (Regional Director)
